The Bike

My bike is a 2000 KLR-650 bought used with 11,000 kms, current at 22,000 31,000 37,300 45,080 kms. Modifications are:

  • 3 Pelican cases and a Packrat Adventure rack to mount them on
  • Aluminum dash with 12-volt socket
  • Aluminum skid plate
  • Hand guards
  • Replacement pegs
  • BMW-style connector for heated vest/trickle-charging
  • Duct-tape now largely replacing front fork guard material Replaced with new fork guards in San Gil, Colombia

    Hellllo! No I didn’t fall off the edge of the earth and neither have you. What a great trip! 31000kms and counting…On to South America- just curious- why are you going around Panama? Eric

      Eric, hello! Good to hear from you. I was suspecting you were still on this earth somewhere – which state? I wasn’t that I skipped Panama. It’s that the Darien Gap has no road going through it from Panama to Columbia – I took the sailboat around the gap –

    Hi mate
    I was just surfing the net and came apon your site. Go the KLR! I had just ridden the entire length of the Great divide of Australia on my 03 model,around NSW,(crashed) the Flinders ranges and to Broome via Arnhemland from Sydney with no real problems, but hey congratulations on your travels,you are a legend around here after reading about some of the things you have experenced and distance you have ridden!
    I have become obsessed with riding from Alaska to Tierra Fuego ye-ha!
